Alphington, where Rick Amor lives, is a residential suburb of Melbourne, seven kilometres north-east of the city centre. It lies directly north of the Yarra River, which forms one of its boundaries.

Amor has made several works depicting street views in his immediate neighbourhood. This etching shows a local Alphington streetscape and includes a house, built in the 1890s, that is notable for its prominent tower.

After taking E.114 through two states, Amor considered this print too minor to continue with, and used the reverse side of the copper plate for his portrait of the artist Michael Kelly (cat. no. E.115).
