Amor’s original objective in creating the series of self portraits he began in 2009 (of which this is one) was to superimpose each new self image over the previous one on the copper plate. This procedure did not work out quite as expected because, for reasons of legibility, the artist found that he had to substantially burnish away the earlier image before creating a new one. Here, however, he has taken another approach. Instead of superimposing images on the matrix, he has superimposed them through the printing process, selecting an existing proof impression of his 2010 self portrait and running it through the press again, to print the 2016 self portrait over it.
