  • I. 1st state of 3

    Soft-ground etching. Frontal self portrait showing the artist’s head, to the top of the forehead, with a fragment of the shoulders visible. Amor has a beard and moustache and wears a T-shirt. The subject has been etched with soft-ground etching. In addition to the single impression of this state, there is a counterproof impression, which has been overdrawn in pen and ink.

    1. Impression with even plate tone, on wove BFK Rives paper, printed by Rick Amor in his Dunmoochin studio. Inscribed in pencil, below the plate mark: lower left: ‘1 [circled]’; lower centre: ‘SP’; lower right: signed and dated ‘Rick Amor ’90’.

    The plate has been re-etched, so that the lines are now thicker overall, and hatching has been added to the face and the background.

    Fine etched hatching has been added to the face, including the lips, and to the left background. There are two variant impressions of this state.

    This is one of three small self portraits done in quick succession in early 1990. The other two self portraits are cat. nos E.017 and E.018. All were drawn before a mirror, directly onto the plate.

    The verso of the copper plate used for E.016 was subsequently used as the matrix for cat. no. E.017.
